Berryville, AR – March 1, 2024 – To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available with school breakfast, Berryville Schools will celebrate National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) during March 4-8, 2024. Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, Berryville Schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day. The NSBW campaign theme, “Surfs Up with School Breakfast,” reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to: • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math • Score higher on standardized tests • Have better concentration and memory • Be more alert • Maintain a healthy weight School nutrition professionals and students will be encouraged to show their enthusiasm for school breakfast from March 4-8 as the district celebrates NSBW with special menus, activities, and more. A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students are nourished and ready to learn. National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the nutritious and delicious choices we offer. Parents and students can follow the fun on Facebook.com/TrayTalk.

Bobcat Families – After we announced our make up days for weather, the state department of education offered the opportunity to change our calendar to count instructional time rather than instructional on-site days. Therefore, we revamped our calendar, received a supportive vote from our staff and school board of education, and received approval from the state board of education. Our new plan is to add 28 instructional minutes to each day beginning March 4th. If we do not have any more weather day cancellations, our last day of school will be Friday, May 24th. The High School and Middle School will begin at 7:45 with the first bell ringing at 7:41. Late start Monday will begin at 8:20 with the first bell ringing at 8:16. Students will be dismissed each day at 3:24. Elementary and Intermediate School will begin at 8:00 and students will be dismissed at 3:33.

Families and stakeholders are invited to complete this survey regarding the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Districts have the opportunity to begin school on August 12, instead of August 19th. Since we no longer have AMI days for inclement weather, an earlier start date will allow us to get more student days on the front end of the calendar. The Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) announced that January is School Board Member Recognition Month in Arkansas. School board members play an essential role in our community. The Berryville School District will join other districts in Arkansas in celebration of our board by thanking them for the time, talents, and knowledge they bring to our district and for their commitment to the families and children of our community. Elected school board members give our Berryville citizens a voice in education decision-making. While we make a special effort to show our appreciation in January, their contribution is a year-round commitment. The members serving our district are as follows: Chad Hipps, LeeAnn Ashford, Travis Gregory, Kristi Howerton, Jared Phillips, Jeff Tanksley, and Linda Winkle. Thank you BOE members for serving #BobcatNation!
